Ribbon Cutting Grand Opening of Burlington Coat Factory in Elgin |
The Burlington Coat Factory is opening a 70,000 sf store on Randall Road in the Otter Creek Shopping Center. The national department store retail chain will be housed in the space previously occupied by a Dominick’s which closed in 2004. Scheduled to open in the spring of 2009 with a projected $8 million in annual sales, the store is expected to generate $140,000 per year in local sales tax. The developer of the project is Stelios Aktipis (Otter Creek LLC) who purchased the center last year for $22.8 million. The 238,835 sf center is located at 200-268 Randall Road, just south of Route 20. Current Otter Creek tenants include Party Werks, Hobby Lobby, and Office Max. The cost of remodeling the store, tenant improvements, and other expenses total over $3.4 million, according to the City of Elgin and developer. The city will rebate a portion of the $140,000 local sales tax to the developer at $99,100 per year for a period of five years. The new retail store will provide a much-needed major anchor for the shopping center as well as generating new sales tax revenue for the City of Elgin. The Burlington Coat Factory opened its first outlet store in Burlington, NJ in 1972 and today operates 394 stores in 44 states nationwide. Over the years, the company has evolved into a one-stop shopping experience featuring the latest in designer clothing, shoes, accessories, baby products and home furnishings. The Burlington Coat Factory makes value a priority, offering current, high quality, designer merchandise at prices up to 60% below those at other department stores, according to the company. |
