3RD ANNUAL ST. PAT’S DAY 5K BENEFITS ANDERSON ANIMAL SHELTER Pet parade added to the event for all fitness levels and furry friends to join the fun
Registration is open for the 3rd annual St. Pat’s Day 5K benefitting Anderson Animal Shelter, the Fox Valley’s oldest and largest shelter. LoMar Events is hosting the event and invites residents to kick off their 5K season by running or walking for a great cause on Sunday, March 11 at 9:15 a.m. in South Elgin.
In addition to the traditional 5K, new for this year is a 1-mile pet parade walk, which starts at 9 a.m. Advance registration is recommended for the 5K and pet parade walk. Starting at SEBA Park at 50 West State St. in South Elgin, the route follows the scenic Fox River Trail. Runners, walkers, dogs are all welcome to participate. Last year’s event drew more than 260 participants, many of whom came prepared for the elements and dressed in their celebratory green.
The 5K event is chip-timed. Each adult and youth 5K participant will receive a T-shirt and finishers’ medals as well as a swag bag filled with fun items. In addition, awards will be given for the top three overall male and female finishers as well as the first place male and female winners in age categories, including 9 and under; and 5-year age groups starting at age 10 and going to 80 and up. All pet parade participants will receive a swag bag filled with coupons and St. Patrick's Day goodies.
Businesses from the surrounding communities can support the 5K through advertising and sponsorships, in-kind donations for raffle prizes, and volunteering on race day. Proceeds from the event benefit Anderson, which cares for more than 5,000 homeless pets each year and conducts adoptions through its main shelter at 1000 S. LaFox Street in South Elgin, as well as at two satellite adoption centers in Bloomingdale located inside the Petco store on Army Trail Road; and in North Aurora next to Pet Supplies Plus on Randall Road.
