Elgin reschedules public information meeting for Chicago Street reconstruction project
Elgin, IL – Due to the extreme cold temperatures forecasted, the City of Elgin has rescheduled the Chicago Street reconstruction project public information meeting. The meeting, originally planned for Tuesday, January 29, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the Heritage Ballroom at the Edward Schock Centre of Elgin, located at 100 Symphony Way in Elgin.
The original meeting notices were mailed to residents, businesses and property owners on Chicago Street between Center Street and Liberty Street and on Geneva Street from Chicago Street to Fulton Street. Those impacted are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting to learn details of the project, the City’s new lead service line replacement ordinance, and the critical items each resident and property owner will be required to participate in with respect to the removal of the lead service lines. An English to Spanish translator will be present at the meeting.
The Chicago Street reconstruction project will include new pavement, curb and gutter and sidewalk removal and replacement, along with water main, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer improvements.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2019 starting with underground utility improvements. Pavement and parkway improvements are slated for the 2020 construction season. The completion date of the project is November 1, 2020. This project will create temporary inconveniences such as dust, construction noise, periodic loss of water service, driveway closures, and traffic delays. Every effort will be made to communicate with properties through the duration of the project to alleviate unexpected disruptions.
