Pallet to Palate: A Virtual Celebration
This year's Pallet to Palate will be a free, virtual experience of appreciation and gratitude.
Food for Greater Elgin will celebrate the wider Elgin community and all those who volunteered or gave money to support the pantry in an on-line virtual celebration on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 7 p.m. “Traditionally the Pantry has held a ‘Palette to Palate’ event with food and wine tastings from local restaurants each spring. It was a great party, a way to discover the wonderful restaurants in our area and a major fund raiser for us,” explained interim executive director Michael Montgomery. “This year that was not possible because of the global pandemic. That opened our eyes to all that we had to celebrate: 200 new volunteers who stepped up so that we could continue our work, hundreds and hundreds of donors who gave money so that we could put food on our neighbors’ tables and all of the restaurants and loyal supporters who have been a part of our lives for so many years.” Food for Greater Elgin is a client choice food pantry serving Elgin, South Elgin, East and West Dundee. The main focus of the pantry is daily shopping for food. In addition to this, however, the pantry has added deliveries of food to low income senior housing, seniors who are trapped at home by the virus and deliveries to people who are covid-19 positive and cannot leave their homes to get food. 1,318 households were given food in April, serving about 10,000 people in total (some receive food several times). The virtual event can be seen on the non-profit’s webpage, www.ffge.org at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Those who register ahead of time will get secret recipes to foods featured in the half hour presentation. While donations are always accepted, this event is free and open to all.
