Betsey Means will portray Jane Addams (1860-1935) who was a crusader for social justice, a dedicated American who devoted her life to caring for the underprivileged and to fighting for the rights of workers, women and children. She was the co-founder of Hull House, Chicago’s first social settlement. Audiences will enjoy a complete theatrical experience, authentically costumed and accurately evoking a bygone era.
Betsey Means is a professional actress who has performed with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare on the Green, Blue Rider Theatre, and Chicago Children’s Theatre, among other groups.She represents the group “WomanLore” who offers one-woman performances adapted directly from journals, autobiographies, and personal writings.
The Elgin Area Historical Society annual meeting will take place at this program with elections and a report on the state of the Museum.
