Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service to be Offered by the Coalition of Elgin Religious Leaders (CERL)
Elgin, Illinois: “Abundant Blessings” is this year’s theme for the annual Community Thanksgiving Service, to be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 340 Grand Boulevard, Elgin, Illinois.
An annual tradition, this gathering celebrates the diversity of traditions and cultures in the greater Elgin area, and draws together readings from sacred texts in a variety of languages, performances by musical groups, and an outpouring of artistic and devotional expressions of thanks for the gifts and blessings of this past year, as well as the hopes for a bountiful year to come. Keynote speaker for the event is Helen Strom. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit Food for Greater Elgin.
The Coalition of Elgin Religious Leaders (CERL) is a 70-plus group of religious leaders and houses of worship which span Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, and Muslim traditions in this area. Building upon its history of community involvement over the past half-century, it seeks to provide events designed to open conversations on social justice issues, community concerns, and deepen the understanding of diverse religious traditions, always with an eye to fostering constructive dialogue on how better to come together to address the needs and wants of the varied communities it represents.
