Ingersoll Machine Tools Launches Major Expansion of Rockford Campus to Make Way for Development of Worlds-Largest Magellan Telescope

This week, the DCEO team joined Ingersoll Machine Tools, Inc. in Rockford to break ground on a major expansion of their Illinois campus that will support construction of the new Giant Magellan Telescope Mount (GMTM).

These new investments will not only give way to state-of-the-art technology, it will also create 75 new jobs while adding an additional 40,000 square feet under roof to the current 500,000 square foot campus.

“Ingersoll’s latest investment in Illinois will pave the way to one of the largest and most powerful telescopes in the world, rivaling that of the Hubble,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “We are excited that ‘made in Illinois’ will be part of this important new program. Investing in cutting edge technology that’s manufactured here will expand new job opportunities for our state. Ingersoll is an important part of our manufacturing base, and thanks to our state’s top-notch talent and infrastructure, companies continue to choose Illinois as their future home.”

Nearly $100 Million Available for Illinois Families Behind on Utility Payments

In light of the recent expiration of the moratorium on utility shutoffs this week, DCEO’s Office of Community Assistance is encouraging eligible families to take advantage of resources available for low-income families in need of assistance.

Through the Help Illinois Families program, Governor Pritzker and DCEO launched a major expansion of the LIHEAP and CSBG programs. This included directing $275 million to broaden access to households impacted by COVID-19, providing resources to help with not only utility bills, but rent, temporary shelter, food and more.

The department has improved access to these resources by implementing a streamlined remote applications process, creating a new website and hotline (with assistance in over 30 languages). We have also increased eligibility to serve more low-income families by expanding the income threshold and by accepting ITIN numbers on the LIHEAP program for the first time ever.

The Phantom Gallery Chicago Network is committed to helping network and emerging artists succeed through temporary exhibitions in a non-traditional gallery setting. As COVID-19 altered the landscape, Chief Curator Alpha Bruton applied for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) so she could continue to support the gallery. “With assistance from the DCEO and their community navigator partners, I secured the PPP as an Individual/Sole Proprietor and look forward to a fresh canvas in 2021,” she said.
