Economic Development Week: May 9 through May 13
May 09, 2022The Elgin Development Group (EDG), a division of the Elgin Chamber of Commerce, is celebrating Economic Development Week from May 9 through May 13 to raise awareness of the work being done between the City of Elgin and the Elgin Chamber of Commerce to raise awareness of the local economic development program. Created in 2016 by International Economic Development Council, the largest international professional trade association for economic developers, Economic Development Week also aims to increase the public’s understanding of local programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities, and improve the quality of life in Elgin.
The partnership with the City of Elgin allows the EDG to work in the areas of business retention, business attraction, business expansion, marketing, transportation, and workforce development. All are key areas of the economic development program in the City of Elgin.
This week we will focus on each program area and describe what is being done to promote Elgin as an excellent place to do live, work and conduct business. Tony Lucenko, EDG Director, says, “Our ability to improve the life of Elginites requires the collaboration of a network of people and organizations that work together to improve the quality of life for all residents.”
The Elgin Development Group over-arching goals are to:- Provide a solid tax base to support municipal and educational goals,
- Improve the quality of life and standard of living for Elgin residents,
- Create a diverse and vibrant local economy, and
- Generate desirable employment.
