    YWCA Elgin Leader Luncheon Award Recipients: On May 11, the YWCA Elgin recognized nearly 30 outstanding women of leadership in the Elgin community at their Annual Leader Luncheon. Award recipients included Dr. Sojung Hong (Arts), Toya Webb (Communications and Technology), Kathleen Rusniak (Education), Ana Lalley (Public Service), Danielle Henson (Racial Justice), Vivian Maly (Social Service, Karen Schock (Volunteer and Community Service) and our very own Elgin Area Chamber President Carol Gieske (Business/Professions).

    Advocate Sherman Hospital Named 150 Best Places to Work: Advocate Sherman Hospital was recently recognized by Modern Healthcare Magazine as one of the Top 150 Places to Work in Healthcare. The recognition program honors workplaces throughout the healthcare industry that empower employees to provide patients and customers with the best possible care, products and services. The complete ranked list will be revealed by the publication in September.

    New Lords Park Zoo Bison Named: The newest member of Lords Park Zoo's bison herd celebrated her first birthday in May by receiving a wonderful gift...her new name, Takoda, which means "friend to all". The name was selected amongst six choices in an online poll conducted by the City of Elgin and Friends of Lord's Park Zoo. Takoda is joined by her bison zoo-mates, Drew and Becky.

    GVC Summer Concerts Announced: The Grand Victoria Casino's Summer Concert Series returns to Festival Park in downtown Elgin this summer. It's a country music spectacular on July 1 with Gretchen Wilson, The Charlie Daniels Band and Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys followed by a fireworks display. 3 Doors Down and Filter come to town on July 22. Then on August 19, it's the Yestival with Yes, Todd Rundgren and Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy.     Elgin Civil War Experience: On June 10 and 11, the city of Elgin hosts the inaugural Elgin Civil War Experience on the grounds of the Elgin Mental Health Center. The event features live battles, accurate portrayals of soldier encampments, medical field operations, witness a civil war era baseball game and more!
