    Thanks to the Elgin Breakfast Rotary Club for its recent Elgin Craft Beer Festival on Riverside Drive. The successful beer garden drew more than 800 people to the community and raised additional funds for Elgin nonprofits.
     
    Members of our community recently gathered for a rededication of St. Francis Park, the original site of Presence Saint Joseph Hospital. We are blessed to have strong roots in the Elgin community and by the opportunity to reflect on those roots.
     
    More than 39,000 students attending District U46 schools are back in class. The new school year brings new initiatives, including the expansion of the district’s take-home computer rollout, the introduction of dual-language classes in the high schools, the opening of the first charter school and the return of counselors to the middle schools.
     
    Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin continues to rank among the top hospitals in Illinois, according to U.S. News & World Report. In the magazine’s 2018-19 ranking, Advocate Sherman tied for the No. 10 spot. The Elgin hospital earned a high-performing rating for adult specialties: diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, geriatrics, and pulmonology.
     
    The 22nd annual Riverfest, South Elgin's annual summer festival held at Panton Mill Park along the Fox River, was a success again this year. Carnival rides; entertainment; a car show; craft show and small business expo; Valley Model Railroad; and fireworks entertained visitors from throughout the area.
