The Award-Winning Elgin Symphony Orchestra to Perform Works by Beethoven and Shostakovich March 3 & 4
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra (ESO), led by guest conductor Edwin Outwater, will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, featuring guest pianist William Wolfram, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 12, on Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, March 4, 2:30 pm at the Hemmens Cultural Center. The ESO has won Illinois Professional Orchestra of the Year a record-setting four times from the Illinois Council of Orchestras. Guest conductor Edwin Outwater has been called “one of the most innovative conductors on the scene today,” by Michael Tilson Thomas, and William Wolfram, a bronze medalist in the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition, is sought-after for his masterful interpretations of Beethoven’s concertos. Music Historian Jim Kendros will lead free Listeners Clubs discussions about the upcoming concerts on Wednesday, February 28 at 10:30 am at GreenFields of Geneva, and 1:00 pm at the Gail Borden Public Library. American pianist William Wolfram was a silver medalist at both the William Kapell and the Naumburg International Piano Competitions and a bronze medalist at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow. Wolfram has appeared with many of the greatest orchestras of the world and has developed a special reputation as the rare concerto soloist who is also equally versatile and adept as a recitalist, accompanist and chamber musician.
