• “MUNGER ROAD” RETURNS – SPECIAL DRIVE IN MOVIE SATURDAY MAY 30 IN ELGIN, IL

Homemade MUNGER ROAD will return for one night only on a giant OUTDOOR DRIVE IN SCREEN at OLD REPUBLIC restaurant in Elgin

Nick Smith is the writer and director of MUNGER ROAD. The movie premiered at all Chicagoland theaters in the Fall of 2011. The film found massive box office success including having the highest grossing per theater average of any film in the country for all of 2011.

He and his family also own the popular restaurant, OLD REPUBLIC KITCHEN + BAR in Elgin that sits in front of the Marcus Elgin Movie Theater. “With the reality we all have been living for the past two months – it has really forced us as a restaurant to think outside the box”, Smith said. “When we saw how much success the McHenry Drive-In is having…. I said to myself ‘Hmmmm’”.

Taking a popular movie and combining it with a great restaurant that has a large parking lot leads to a one night only DRIVE IN MOVIE, Saturday, May 30. Smith hired a professional drive in movie company from Indiana to journey to Elgin to help produce the event. “It’s a massive screen – and it’s also nice that in addition to outdoor speakers – guests will be able to tune in to their FM radio to hear the audio from the movie”, Smith said.

The event will be following strict and specific guidelines to ensure a safe and successful event. “The movie starts at 9pm – we’d like people to start coming at 5pm or so….”, Smith said. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available in three different packages. Tickets will sell out quickly and are available on Old Republic’s website: www.oldrepublicbar.com

The Drive-In will include popcorn, concessions, drinks and entertainment for the evening. “This is a way for us to give people the opportunity to see the movie for the first time if they haven’t seen it or if you have seen it… a great excuse to get the family out of the house for some good, safe fun”, Smith said.

About the film… On the eve of the annual Scarecrow Festival, two St. Charles police officers, Academy Award Nominee and veteran actor, Bruce Davison  as Chief Kirkhoven, and Randall Batinkoff  as Deputy Hendricks (Kickass, As Good As It Gets, The Peacemaker, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer) search for a return killer the same night four teenagers go missing on Munger Road.

The film is Rated PG-13 with a runtime of 90 minutes.

Munger Road is located just outside St. Charles in the village of Bartlett. The road and the train tracks that cross over it have been adorned with legends for over three decades.

MUNGER ROAD also stars Chicago-born Trevor Morgan (The Sixth Sense, The Patriot  and Jurassic Park); Chicago-born Lauren Storm (The Game Plan, I Love You Beth Cooper and The Roommate); Hallock Beals (as Scott in The Last Song with Miley Cyrus); and newcomer Brooke Peoples.
