The Importance of Being Funny
Heard any good jokes lately? Al Gini certainly has—he will explain how humor can give us the power to cope with difficult situations, dispel tension and even transform our lives when he talks about The Importance of Being Funny at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 18 at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin 60120.
Co-sponsored by Elgin Area Chamber and Gail Borden Library, here is your opportunity to join us and have a fun evening recognizing the importance of laughter in your life.
A Professor of Business Ethics in the Quinlan School of Business at Loyola University Chicago, as well as co-founder and long-time Associate Editor of Business Ethics Quarterly, Mr. Gini was the Resident Philosopher on National Public Radio’s Chicago affiliate, WBEZ-FM, for many years and can now be heard on WGN/Tribune Radio.
He believes that humor can help us as we deal with everyday struggles and the larger mysteries of life. “Humor may not be able to provide definitive answers, but it can arrest and defang our uncertainty. I am convinced that laughter offers perspective, reinforces our humanity, and encourages hope.”
Mr. Gini’s presentation will be based on his book The Importance of Being Funny: Why We Need More Jokes in Our Lives. The program is co-sponsored by Gail Borden Library and the Elgin Area Chamber. Free to the community, the program requires registration at elginchamber.com or 847-741-5660 or gailborden.info/register or by calling 847-429-4597
