Pritzker Signs the Reimagining Electric Vehicles (REV) Act to Incentivize Electric Vehicle Manufacturers to Expand in Illinois

Building on Illinois’ role as a leading state in the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing industry, this week Governor JB Pritzker signed the Reimagining Electric Vehicles (REV) in Illinois Act into law, aimed at incentivizing EV production across Illinois. The new incentives benefit the state’s entire EV ecosystem, by helping to build facilities, boost workforce training, and create thousands of jobs. REV is a major step towards one of the administration’s ambitious goals of putting one million electric vehicles on Illinois road by 2030.

The administration continues to invite EV producers, EV specific parts manufacturers and charging station manufacturers to establish in Illinois and join companies such as Rivian and Lion Electric. Earlier this year, Governor Pritzker announced the creation of two new Manufacturing Training Academies in Illinois, including a first-of-its-kind Electric Vehicle-Energy Storage Manufacturing Training Academy which specializes in training the Illinois workforce for careers in the EV industry.

As we continue to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) in Illinois, this week Governor JB Pritzker joined AAR CORP., United Airlines, local officials and workforce partners to announce a $2.6 million investment to fast-track workforce development training for in-demand aviation mechanics. State funds will be used to expand, develop, and implement a comprehensive workforce strategy including apprenticeship opportunities offered through AAR’s Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the Rockford Airport.

State grant funds will support several of AAR’s talent pipeline efforts to help grow the aviation technician pipeline in Rockford, creating 50 apprenticeship opportunities as a result and supporting short-term credentialing programs and incentives for experienced technicians to relocate to the Rockford area.

    Back to Business Grant Recipient
Like most in the hospitality industry, the Best Western Plus Bloomington East Hotel was hit hard by the pandemic. Co-owner Ravi Wadhwa and General Manager Greg Rakestraw had just completed a $5+ million renovation of the property and had been up and running for a short 18 months when room demand suddenly checked-out due to COVID-19 in March 2020.

With the help of a $75,000 Back to Business (B2B) grant and the return of business and leisure travelers to Central Illinois, sunny days are here again at the hotel’s pool! “I cannot express how much this grant means to us after investing so much into the hotel and re-opening just a few months before the start of the pandemic,” said Mr. Wadhwa.
