U46 Eight Graders Explore Academic and Career Options
Nearly 3,000 U-46 eighth graders from all eight of the District's middle schools attended EXPLORE 2018 a curriculum and career expo. The event was held at the Sears Centre, with students arriving by U-46 buses throughout the day.
The purpose of EXPLORE is to improve college and career readiness by having students experience real-world careers and the academic education and training required: thereby, connecting classroom studies to possible future careers.
About 85 Businesses and organizations showcased their products and services along with industry career opportunities. Several career clusters were highlighted at the expo including Manufacturing, Health Sciences, Education and Human Services, Business and Finance and STEM. The exhibitors helped the students gain practical knowledge of various careers through hands-on activities which were challenging and fun.
The students at the expo were engaged, interested in the display and asked good questions, according to the exhibitors.
EXPLORE 2018 was arranged by U-46 and the Alignment Collaborative for Education along with several volunteer organizations and businesses, including the Chamber's Elgin Development Group.
