    Position Summary:

    To provide and supervise the provision of bilingual/bicultural information, advocacy and referral services to individuals and families by telephone, in person appointments and participation in community events. This position also advances the mission of Centro by assessing community outreach needs and developing strategies to increase awareness of and access to Centro’s programs and services. This position is a member of the agency's staff leadership team.

The mission of Centro de Información is to empower Hispanics with the ability to effectively integrate into our greater community through the facilitation of information, education, citizenship and well-being. Centro provides immigration and naturalization services, employment aid, an emergency food pantry, educational seminars, public benefits outreach and advocacy and more. Centro has been serving in the community since 1972 and serves over 7,000 clients each year.

    Each office location (Elgin, Carpentersville and Hanover Park) is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

    Duties / Functions:


    • Conduct and coordinate community outreach to ensure the agency's maximum participation in a wide range of area events addressing issues such as employment, health, immigration, citizenship, education, safety, financial management, parenting, food security and English language learning.


    • Develop and implement seminars and educational workshops addressing staff team identified community needs.


    • Oversee the maintenance of client and resource information to ensure effective referral, advocacy, and grant reporting.


    • Responsible for the initiation, preparation, implementation, monitoring, successful completion, and evaluation of agency outreach and engagement efforts.


    • Coordinate the training and supervision of community outreach staff and volunteers.


    • Alleviate crises by responding with appropriate and relevant referrals and intervention.


    • Recruit and involve community residents to participate in agency events that will advance the mission of the organization.


    • Prepare all reports pertinent to the community outreach program and submit to Assistant Director for review before submission to funding sources and granting institutions.


    • Assume other duties as assigned


    • Report to Executive Director.



    • Bachelor’s Degree required.
    • Non-profit organization work experience preferred.
    • Proficient in MS Office programs
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed, accurate records.
    • Bilingual Spanish/English and bicultural including understanding of the immigrant experience and obstacles due to language barriers, legal status, and poverty.
    • Strong communication skills including excellent written and verbal competencies and the ability to speak in public and to interact with community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Supervisory experience preferred.
