    About Us

We train volunteers to tutor adults in basic literacy or English as a second language. Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer literacy tutor complete 12 hours of tutor training before they are matched with an adult learner. Tutoring times are flexible and arranged based on the volunteer's availability.
There is a tremendous need in the Elgin and Carpentersville areas for services. The typical adult learner waits nearly one year before they are matched with a tutor.
Tutoring literally changes lives. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a tutor, please visit our website at www.elginliteracy.org or email info@elginliteracy.org.
Other volunteer opportunities at The Literacy Connection include volunteering in our office, at fundraisers, or serving on our Board of Directors. Contact us at 847-742-6565 or email info@elginliteracy.org to learn more.
