Elgin Image Awards:
In March, Elgin's Image Advisory Commission recognized individuals, businesses and organizations that have had a positive impact on Elgin. The commission received 31 nominations of which thirteen winners were selected including: Urszula Borodzinska, Hal Getzelman, Gretchen S. Vapnar, Keith Rauschenberger, Diabetes in the Latin Community Steering Team, Elgin Fire Station #7 Community Garden, Grand Victoria Foundation, Danny’s Pizza, Elgin Fresh Market, Oak Crest Residence and Atrium Apartments of Elgin, Downtown Neighborhood Association’s Promotions Committee, Elgin Patriotic Memorial Association and St. Edwards High School.
Kiwanis Club of Elgin supports youth leadership program:
Renz Addiction Counseling Center was recently awarded $1,000 from the Kiwanis Club of Elgin to help fund the Center’s Leadership Empowerment And Development (LEAD) program for at-risk youth. For seven weeks this summer, 40 at-risk teens will learn evidence-based Project Toward No Drug Abuse curriculum with activities that reinforce leadership skills, build self-esteem, and develop decision-making abilities.
Schmidt accepted into FSEDI:
The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) announced that Elgin Fire Chief David Schmidt has been accepted into the fifth year of the Fire Service Executive Development Institute (FSEDI). Schmidt competed with new fire chiefs and chief officers from across the country to become a member of the 2017 cohort program. Along with being accepted into the program Chief Schmidt has been awarded a scholarship which covers the expenses for attending the program, funded by Motorola Solutions.

With golf season now in full swing, Golf Advisor recently released its top 25 golf courses in Illinois, with Bowes Creek Country Club topping the list at #1 and #26 overall iu the country. Spartans dominate local March Madness headlines:
The Madness of March was not solely limited to the hardcourts of the NCAA men's and women's college basketball tournaments. Elgin Community College's Spartan men's basketball team made an unprecedented run this season by winning their second consecutive Skyway Conference Title, a Region 4 Championship (a first for the program), a District 2 Championship (another first in program history), and finishing the season as the National Runner-Up. The Spartans season would end with an overall record of 31-6. The 31 wins is also a new school record.
